salam alikom well i'm making this special lesson for a question i was asked about adjectives in Arabic language and that they are confusing...
well let's see and i will try to make this easier so even people other than the person who's this lesson was made for can understand
the adjectives (adjective) (الصفات (صفة
1- 'the' in arabic language is 'al' it works with the same concept of 'the'
2- the arabic works the other way around not like english.. (big apple.. in arabic you say apple big) alright?
3- a feminine word has a feminine (sefa) صفة , masculine with masculine.
4- singular has a singular (sefa) صفة
5- the trick here is with the plural so let me give examples first and get back to this one
in english you go in front of an English teacher and say....... the apple the big .... and he will give you a huge F
BUT in Arabic saying ... التفاحة الكبيرة altufaha alkabera (the big apple) is correct
التفاحة الكبيرة is actually an example for all four rules
- 'al' in the noun(اسم - esm) and in the adjective (sefa - صفة)
- the صفة is after the اسم (noun) unlike the English
- here in this example the apple is feminine in Arabic (notice the ta marbotah ة at the end) so as the big we added a ta marbotah to make it feminine so both feminine words now
- تفاحة is singular AN apple so as كبيرة
now كبير the male version is singular (how do we know?) well it's a singular form it doesn't have (alif and noon) to make it for 'two' big things and it's not one of the plural forms which we will talk about them some other time if you didn't know them (we will get a bit in the next part)
5- okay the plural words have plural adjectives when the thing you are describing is a aqel(عاقل) meaning living thing like a human or animals or planets ...
eg. الأصدقاء المخلصون (alasdiqaa almokhlisoon) meaning the loyal friends صديق ----> أصدقاء singular turns plural (without a rule this type of plural is called jame' takseer جمع تكسير)
مخلص ------> مخلصون talking about group of male friends (adding waw and noon at the end of the word make it a plural for group of male this type is called jame' mothakar جمع مذكر)
مخلص ------> مخلصات talking about a group of female friends (adding alif and ta at the end it's called jame' moanath جمع مؤنث)
also صديقة -----> صديقات female friend and female friendS is jame moanath
okay now that we covered the plural forms quickly let's talk about when whatever we want to describe isn't a living thing and it's plural... well here my dearest reader the sefa (adjective) is singular
الجبال العالية (aljebal alalyah) the high mountains
(jebal from jabal جبل is جمع تكسير) and عالية is singular
and so on...
